Darby will introduce us to the enigmatic female pillar figurines of 8th-6th century BCE Judah. Using figurines excavated from tombs at Tell ed-Duweir (biblical Lachish), the lecture will demonstrate how archaeological context and museum collections research can complicate or challenge interpretations of their role in ancient Judahite ritual life.
